Hunnewell Valley was settled in the middle 1750"s. We don't know excatley when but grave stones on the hill are dated in the 1750's, some of the oldest in the State of Maine.
A history book, "Embden Town of Yours", tells the story of the original settler Capt. Hutchins sending his Wife with Baby in a canoe up the river to the area now known as Hunnewell Valley. The Wife was guided by an Indian Guide, as they led a cow up the shore. When they arrived in Hunnewell Valley, the Guide stole the Baby and took it to his Squaw. His Squaw didn't want the Baby so the Guide brought it back to Mrs. Hutchins. Interesting stories of time gone by.
